Understanding the Process of Concrete Floor Levelling

When we build our home, we plan it to last long. In other words, we build them in the sense that it won’t get wear down easily. But due to some events and ageing, with time it does starts to deteriorate and thus needs repairs. Now, that being said, flooring of the house is the most important part of the house. It is the base on which everything lies. But the thing is that homeowners give more importance to the interior, windows, and walls, and often times forget about flooring.

Reasons Defining Any Damage in Your Concrete Floor:

#1. Holes:  Any flooring type, whether it is a wooden floor or a concrete flooring when time passes by it start to develop some wear and tear on its surface. Concrete flooring is more susceptible to cracks, which can often lead to holes in nearby areas.

#2. Bending and Contraction: The list of problems in concrete flooring is bending of at joints, failure in joints and pressure induced cracks and they are all common. Many times, it happens that the topmost portion of concrete floors dries up faster as compared to the bottom, which can cause a contraction and as result reduction in size.

#3. Crack: There is no flooring type that can prove that they are not affected by moisture. When it comes to concrete floors which are in continuous contact of moisture starts developing cracks. Generally, cracks do appear in those rooms where an air conditioner is placed or in a room where in the washing machine is fixed.

The Process of Concrete Floor Levelling and its Repair:

#1. Clear the Room – Before floor levelling, one must remove all furniture, and any other items from the room thus leaving it empty.

#2. Check for High and Low Points – You can do this by moving a carpenter’s level all over the floor. The level will give you a rough idea about the areas that require maximum levelling. When you are well prepared and knot the low points, then you can immediately start working on that part.

#3. Clean the Floor – The next step is to clean the floor using a vacuum. It is very important that the floor is free of dust, debris, oil traces, concrete chips and other particles as debris can affect the floor levelling process.

#4. Fill Low/High Points – After ensuring that the floor is clean, start filling low spots using a concrete repair mixture. As a common practice, while dealing with high spots, one usually uses floor grinder. While using floor grinder, one must wear gear protecting their eyes and face.

#5. Level the Floor Out – After the high and low points have been identified, the next step is to fill them with the self-levelling compound. In this process, the mixer is mixed as a pet the instruction. Then pour the self-levelling compound on the floor in such a way that it covers the entire area. The mix does it job and will start filling all the high and low points by itself. The self-levelling compound will be effective only if it covers the entire area of the floor.

#6. Smooth Out the Surface – In the end, people usually run a steel floor smoother over the floor to smooth the surface and fill in any points not covered by the self-levelling compound. Then the surface left out to dry it completely so that it settles downs perfectly.

Concrete Flooring has a lot many benefits, but in case you find any uneven instance where it is evident that flooring is distorted, and levelling is not proper, then one should immediately call concrete floor levelling experts.
