Understanding the Importance of Regular Eye Check Up

If you are skeptical about the benefits of regular eye-check up, we must tell you that it is not just about examining the vision and finding the need for glasses. An optometry expert will not only check your vision and eye-sight but will also check your general eye-health for any type of eye injury or degradation. They would also be able to detect any early symptoms of an upcoming eye condition.

You might have seen many people suffering from different eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts  etc. You might be surprised to learn that an optometrist can detect conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure just by looking at your eyes. Hence we suggest you make a regular visit for your eye check-up not only for the improvement of your eye health, but for your overall health as well.

You might have seen many kids develop vision problems at an early age. Optometry has the power to detect any unnoticed vision problems early and easily.  Researchers have shown that vision is closely associated with the learning process of children. If your kid has some sort of vision problem, a regular visit to an optometrist will prove to be very helpful. There are many people who ignore frequent eye-check up. If you are one of them, it’s time to change your habit now.

What you can do to Protect your Eye Health

  • Make a Schedule

Although taking out time to visit an optometrist is tough, but making a schedule can make this job much easier than you would think of. Usually, you should get an optometry test done on your eyes every two years. But if you are more than 40 years of age or if you are suffering from diabetes, you should consider increasing the frequency of your visit. Connecting your visit with an event would be helpful, such as visiting the optometrist on every birthday or new year.

  • Plan Your Diet

If you are suffering from poor eyesight or other problems, you can refer to optometry to plan your diet in an effective way.  Foods enriched with lutein, Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, C and zinc are found to be very beneficial for eye health. They are even helpful in curing a variety of eye conditions. Surprisingly, you may successfully enhance your eye-sight by making a few changes in your regular diet. We suggest you to include fish, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits and nuts in your daily diet  for best results.

  • Don’t strain your eyes unnecessarily

Mobile and computer screens are highly responsible for causing blurred vision, eye-strain and headache in a large number of people.  Although most of the necessary work is done on these devices nowadays, you should avoid using them for leisure. In optometry, there are a few tools that can make these screens easy on your eyes,  such as special lens that are able to deal with the glare and contrast of the screens easily. You may also wear anti-glare glasses to get rid of such problems.

Now that you have understood the importance of regular optometry tests, make one a regular part of your routine and extend the life and health of your eyes to significant levels.
